A police inspector who had been wanted in connection with the murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has been arrested in Eldoret, bringing an end to a manhunt that had seen him remain at large.
Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters following an intelligence-led operation in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
According to the DCI, detectives intercepted Sang along Uganda Road in Eldoret's Central Business District while he was driving a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number KCM 508L.
Investigators reportedly established that the suspect was attempting to sell the vehicle to raise money for his daily upkeep, a development that provided detectives with an opportunity to apprehend him.
His arrest is particularly significant given his position as a police inspector, placing a serving law enforcement officer at the centre of investigations into two high-profile killings.
The circumstances surrounding the murders, including the possibility of other individuals being involved, remain under investigation as detectives pursue additional leads.
Following his arrest, Sang was escorted to Eldoret Police Station for processing as arrangements were made for his arraignment in court.
His apprehension marks another development in the investigations into the deaths of Mbobu and Mutiso, with detectives now expected to establish the extent of his alleged involvement and whether the investigations could lead to further arrests.
